Undependable and been buggy for years

In Arkansas our systems shut down causing dispensaries to not be able to sell to us. It’s been going on for years since MMJ first became legal in our state. The software was and always will be trash and the owner does nothing to upgrade or fix bugs. This company has cost our state millions in lost sales over the years. When it’s down for over an hour, dispensaries just close down for the day. This is completely unacceptable and seems like a scam of a company.

Awful. The updates they put out seem to further “fix” what really isn’t broken. I’m lucky if I only have to restart it once when I have to use it. Otherwise it suffers from connection issues and slowdowns constantly that make me waste valuable time that could be spent doing other things.

Dispensary users like myself may find it difficult to implement compliance and regulatory changes. Support is often slow, lacking, or non-existent. Their online user’s manual is out of date. Updates are a hassle and the method of learning they exist is when some feature no longer works or when after 20-30 minutes with support they representative decides to check which version you are using and then states “we need to get you on the latest version” . Still waiting for 2.0 which was promised in 2019…

Pros

As a longtime user, I can appreciate many of the more robust features like the reports and (now) seamless API integration. The cash out and check-in UI is pretty user friendly with the ability to ad Icons to the sales menu. The staff is very friendly and about as helpful as they can be given the age and weaknesses of this software. The way they rollout updates though...

Cons

The Support, while friendly seem to have their hands tied by a company that appears to be more interested in Conventions and marketing than making a high quality product geared specifically to the cannabis industry.

I’ve used BioTrackTHC in Washington and New Mexico. I would only recommend using it long enough to perform critical regulatory tasks while you evalute 3rd party traceability solutions. Although it covers all the traceability actions one must perform in a regulated cannabis market, it does so with extremely poor workflow. Many actions are hidden in bizzare menu locations, everything takes an excessive number of clicks to complete, few actions have a batch function, and it runs much slower than is acceptable for a modern software solution.

Pros

If you are just getting started they offer a free version that lets you at least be compliant with state laws. However, time is money. And when considering the time it takes trying to get things done in BioTrackTHC it's actually more cost effective to spend $150-400 on a competitor and save time instead of using BioTrackTHC at all.

Cons

- Software runs slow. - No Mobile app. Very useful for working in grow room, scanning plant tags with phone, taking plant notes etc. - While managing plants/inventory scanning bar-codes still necessitates hitting enter, slowing one down. - No Batch strain creation (i.e. create strain name with a number affix, instead each strain must be created individually. Huge waste of time if one has hundreds of breeding strains to keep track of.) - Workflow segmented among lots of pop ups and windows, jarring experience. Usability feels like late 90s early 2000s software. - Point of Sale very cumbersome, inventory appears at different stock levels depending on what menu view you are currently in. Difficult to gauge at a glance what is in stock or selling well. Checking out customers takes to many steps and is much slower than competitors. ....And much more. Every-time I join a new operation and am forced to use BioTrackTHC (until i switch the operation to something better) I am utterly bewildered at the lack of fore thought for workflow efficiency when this piece of software was created.

Very robust, granular settings, and permissions. It’s a little more complicated than some of the other options, but as you get deeper into your business plan, the complexity is a necessary evil. The complexity can be troublesome for low level budtenders or dispensaries with high turnover and a a need for constant training. Vertical integration is great, reports are extremely useful. It does have some issues but if you’re familiar with the system most issues are user-error and can easily be resolved.

Pros

Reporting features, easy to use, great integrations. Their support is great but sometimes can be hard to get a hold of.

Cons

It can be buggy and it's frustrating when you can't reach support.
