Any staff member can now look at a matter to see its calendar of events, what tasks are pending, how much time and expense have been incurred to date, or the state of a client’s account balances. Generating the final invoices is so much faster than in our previous practice billing system that we are probably spending half the time we used to here.
Wherever we go and from any device, changes in schedule via Google’s Calendar show up concurrently in Rocket Matter. Relatedly, the free iPhone and iPad apps are extremely useful for referencing the firm’s clients and matters while on the go. And the ability to directly enter billable time or expenses via these apps while traveling away from the office is another huge time-saver.
While logged into Rocket Matter with a built-in on-screen timer running, attorneys can return a client’s phone call, type conversational notes into a text box, capture the exact amount of time spent talking, and click “bill” to save the entry as a new billable item.
The lag time between data entry and being ready to bill has practically disappeared. We spend less time generating invoices for the clients, which has contributed to our overall productivity and increased our collections by 25 percent.
After seven years as a public defender, I decided to start my own practice, and I knew I needed some sort of practice management system and processes in place to keep myself and my business organized from the start.

I do have the iPad app which has been helpful in capturing time in court or out of the office. I wish more of the features were available in the app but I know more functionality is getting added regularly.
The timer, though so simple, is so helpful. I don’t under or over estimate my time. I capture a lot more time than I would without Rocket Matter. Because it’s always open on my computer and mobile devices, it’s a lot more efficient to enter time.
However, my favorite thing about Rocket Matter is the integrations with my email and my accounting software. My bookkeeper helped me determine the best process for using QuickBooks with Rocket Matter accounting features most efficiently. I love not having to enter things twice, and knowing that my clients’ trust accounts are well managed.
With the batch-billing feature, I can invoice my clients and it keeps the unpaid invoices in the list so I can decide whether to send a reminder every month.
I’m only a couple months in, but I am a believer. It’s like having my own personal assistant. My peace of mind having Rocket Matter from the day I got my first client is invaluable.
