With our ERP, we found it extremely difficult to manage our production efficiently and quote accurate lead times to our customers. Now, with Resource Manager-DB/EDGE combination, an optimum schedule for materials and workcenters is automatically generated. EDGE displays the production schedule by workcenter in an easy-to-understand graphical format. I can make final manual adjustments simply with the click of a mouse and all the dates associated are automatically synchronized back to the ERP.

BAE Systems / Ordinance Systems Inc. set out to design and implement a process that would enable our manufacturing personnel to systematically identify process, equipment, labor, and material limitations when responding to customer order delivery inquiries. We had already purchased and implemented an ERP system (with Material Requirements Planning and Capacity Requirements Planning functionality), but we weren’t satisfied with its ability to recognize our capacity constraints or meet our finite scheduling needs. The MRP product allowed us to enter Master Scheduler that exceeded available capacity and offered little visibility when we did so. Consequently we chose to discontinue its use for production planning activities.

After a review process, that included sending sample data from our ERP System, we selected User Solutions’ Resource Manager-DB solution. User Solutions has always been highly responsive in addressing our specific needs. In a very short time, we had the majority of our bills of resource, inventory items and work centers loaded.

Now, we have a solution that has become a vital tool in our production planning and scheduling activities. We are extremely satisfied with the offering and are pleased to recommend to others looking for a capacity and production planning solution — either integrated with ERP or standalone.

Delivering accurate information to our customers in a timely manner is the core of our business. Each financial analyst on our staff handles multiple accounts, and our biggest challenge was finding a resource scheduling system which would allow us to share the same resources across multiple projects. User Solutions’ Workcenter Scheduler XL provided that solution.

We tried several options before Workcenter Scheduler XL, including Microsoft Project. We found the others to be difficult to maintain in our environment, or simply undependable. Consequently, we were unable to adequately predict delivery times and our customers were suffering. After viewing the Noah 2000 system and speaking with the representative from User Solutions, I found them to be very responsive. The application filled almost all my needs, and User Solutions was happy to provide customization to tailor the product for our company. They proved to be avid problem solvers and a great example of what a customer solution provider should be.

Setting accurate customer expectations has been the greatest benefit. We are able to track problem areas and get good feedback on potential bottlenecks before they happen. No more unknown statuses, and it makes adjusting schedules easy! We now know exactly what staffing requirements are and can flex our workforce to fit the changing needs of our customers.

We have found these products are a perfect complement to traditional MRP and Shop Control systems. They enable the user to quickly generate various ‘what-if’ plans for feasible and efficient master scheduling, all without disrupting the current system.

In addition to complementing traditional systems, the Resource Manager is the perfect beginning system for companies just getting started with computerizing their operations, both here and abroad. It provides a quick, easy, and flexible method to organize parts, routings, operations, costs, Bills-Of-Materials, and perform basic scheduling, inventory management, even purchasing.

Our customers love the fact that since the Resource Manager is compatible with Excel, they are immediately comfortable with running the system.

  1. Our situation is that we are a relatively small organization (AUD$50M of sales) and we have an outdated MRP system. The current system in Australia has no effective scheduling ability and is very cumbersome to use for product costings. We are also in the process of starting up a new facility in China, which has no MRP system at all, and the people there have little modern manufacturing experience. We decided to use it to help get the Chinese operation up and running quickly first.

The problems we wanted to solve were therefore:

Provide a scheduling system that allows quick changes in a very dynamic demand situation Provide a quick and easy costing system for products Provide a quick and easy system for materials requirements planning Enable BOMs and Routes to be quickly and easily built “on the run” MRP Report in Excel MRP Report in Excel

  1. Resource Manager was chosen because: It is very easy and intuitive to use It can be used in sections within days, without having the whole system implementation required. ie. the materials planning was done first, then the costings, then the scheduling It is low cost It is easily configurable/flexible Good support is offered via Skype, phone and GoToMeeting, with fast turnaround to resolve issues The biggest benefit relative to other systems looked at is its simplicity to operate and speed at which it can generate results in whichever area you want to start on.

A whole system can be built up while it is generating value, which is particularly valuable in a start up situation such as our Chinese plant.

  1. We considered a number of other systems both local and global. Most are far more expensive and comprehensive (eg. accounting capability) but all require much higher cost and are much more resource hungry to set up. RMDB required one individual very much part time (me) to set up on the critical areas for China and is now being run by a young Chinese manager who had no manufacturing experience, but has picked up the concepts well. In that sense it is also a very good MRP training tool also.
